Peanut Butter Cookies I

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening or margarine, softened
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 tbl. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1-3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 375*.
In a large bowl combine the first 7 ingredients; blend well. Stir in the remaining ingredients, blend well. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Flatten in a crisscross pattern with a fork dipped in sugar.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
